Limitations of practice regulations are restrictions to the autonomy of nurse practitioners. Every state decides what legislation governs the practice of a nurse practitioner (NP) license holder. Several states limit the practice of NPs in specific practice areas. NPs can only function in these areas under the supervision of a physician. Thankfully, Washington D.C. operates a full practice system that allows NPs to operate without restrictions or supervision.
